Kedarnath Tour Package

Kedarnath, nestled in the majestic Rudra Mountain range amidst the Himalayas, is a revered temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, counted among the 12 Jyotirlingas. This ancient temple boasts a history dating back over a thousand years and is intricately linked to the epic Mahabharata. However, Kedarnath's unique feature lies in its location—it is situated at a remarkably high elevation, making it accessible only for about half of the year. During the severe winters, the temple becomes impassable due to heavy snowfall.

The temple's stunning architecture is constructed primarily with massive white stones, a testament to its age-old legacy. Within its sacred precincts, the primary deity is Lord Shiva, represented in the form of a Shiva Linga, particularly as his Sada Shiva manifestation. This revered linga is centrally placed beneath the towering, conical dome of the temple structure.

Kedarnath Temple is not just a place of worship but also a repository of mythological legends. One such legend connects it to the five Pandava brothers, renowned as the heroes of the epic Mahabharata. After their victory in the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas were consumed by guilt and remorse. Their victory came at the cost of killing their own cousins, the Kauravas, rendering them steeped in sin and unworthy of entering heaven.

Every year, as the snow begins to recede and the pilgrimage season opens, devotees undertake the arduous journey to Kedarnath. The temple's isolation amidst the towering peaks of the Himalayas adds to its mystique. As pilgrims trek through challenging terrains, the anticipation of reaching the sacred shrine and seeking Lord Shiva's blessings keeps their spirits high.

Located at a lofty altitude of 3,584 meters, Kedarnath Dham derives its name from "Kedar," one of the epithets of Lord Shiva, signifying the protector and destroyer. This sacred site is also often referred to as the final resting place of Shankaracharya. However, the true marvel here is the Kedarnath Temple, an architectural wonder that nestles against the backdrop of the majestic Kedarnath mountain range. It's worth noting that Kedarnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, making it one of the holiest destinations among the Char Dhams.
